I’m Jena Crisler, and I’m deeply concerned about what the current U.S. House Budget Bill means for the people of Virginia’s 35th District.
This proposal threatens to gut funding for public education, healthcare, and social services—services that families in our community rely on every single day.
If passed, this budget could slash funding for programs that help low-income families access healthcare and education by up to 20%. That’s not just a statistic—it’s fewer resources in our schools, longer wait times for medical care, and more families struggling to stay afloat.
As someone who has worked closely with families in our district for over two decades, I know how hard folks are working just to get by. These cuts would make that harder.
In education, the risks are real.
Our public schools could lose critical funding—meaning larger class sizes, fewer materials, and diminished support for students with special needs. That’s unacceptable. Our kids deserve better.
Healthcare is on the chopping block too.
A 15% cut to Medicaid and community health services would be devastating. It means fewer people getting the preventive care they need—and an even wider gap in health outcomes, especially in underserved communities.
Social services, like food assistance and housing support, are also in danger.
A quarter of their funding could disappear. That would push more families into poverty and put greater pressure on our local governments and nonprofits to fill the gaps.
These aren’t just numbers in a spreadsheet. They’re lifelines.
The economic impact would ripple across the state.
Losing jobs in education, healthcare, and social services doesn’t just hurt the people doing that work—it drags down local economies, weakens consumer spending, and makes recovery even harder.
This fight isn’t just about stopping cuts. It’s about building a future where every family has the tools they need to succeed.
I’m Jena Crisler, and I’m ready to stand up for District 35.
